Scheduling and Organization

Clear your Schedule

Before you even start a class you can begin scheduling and organizing your outside life. If you have a job or other activities you may need to inform a boss or a coach that you have to cut back to fit school time in. If you try to perpetuate too many conflicting activities, you won’t be able to get the most out of either activity.

Organize Study Days

As soon as you find out about big assignments or tests plan ahead so you can have enough time to coordinate the time you need to spend to succeed. Prioritize your out-of-class work over other activities. If your homework doesn’t come before other activities, it will catch up with you and cause problems as you go along with your course.

Extra Curricular Activities

If you have important extracurricular activities that you can’t miss, you may be able to work out an agreement with an instructor in advance. Often times if an instructor has a bit of reference into your outside life, they will be more likely to work with you as an individual. Try to find important dates in advance, and try to work out ways of balancing both activities efficiently.

Prioritize

You may need to prioritize your studies to make sure that you get to more important assignments first. Pace yourself so you can get through heavier subjects first, and then reward yourself with easier work after so you don’t get to the end of your study time and feel burnt out.

Flash Cards

Using flashcards is a great idea if you have a lot of information you need to retain quickly. Use a partner to go over and help you come up with methods of memorizing each question. It will be easier to get through a boring study session.
